Ellis
County, KS - Townships
Most Emslanders in Ellis County settled in Victoria, Herzog and Walker
Townships, primarily in Walker Township near the town of Walker. The
towns of Victoria and Walker both had stations on the Union Pacific
RR line.

Victoria/Herzog,
KS
The town of Victoria was founded in 1874 by Scotch-English colonists.
It combined with the town of Herzog, home to many German-Russians,
in 1913.
St Fidelis Parish in Victoria
This was probably the parish for the Emslanders living near Walker
until their own church was built ca 1905.
The Cathedral of the Plains built 1908-10. The first church had
been built in 1877.

Walker,
KS
The area near Walker was first settled by the English in the early
1870s.Germans from Philadelphia arrived in 1876 and settled near Fort
Fletcher and another group Germans arrived the same year and settled
3 miles south of Walker. Within a few years Emslanders from Lorup and
Werlte had also settled there.
