and other members of the family to be identified in research
done from Lengerich parish records. Benedict's birthdate
above was taken from that parish's baptism records and was
one year later than the tombstone date. His wife's surname
was found on the baptismal records of their childre baptized

information was known from his family's entry on the the Passe list of emigrants from
Wettrup, Lengerich to Wabasha, MN. The birth information was verified in Lengerich parish

sketch. Marriage information was taken from Dave Halm's database.
NOTE: incorrect information about Benedict is published in two sources:
(1) Walter Tenfelde, in his book Auswanderungen und Auswanderer aus dem ehemaligen
Kreise Lingen nach Nordamerika, incorrectly identifies Caroline Welp's husband as
Benedict Lager born Oct 23, 1842 in Lengerich, son of Johan Heinrich Lager and Theresia

Theodore's parents' names were on all three
marriages in Clinton County, the first at St Rose parish and information on the other two
supplied by Evelyn Nettemeyer. Theodore's second and third marriages mentioned on those
records that they were a second and third marriage for him. His approximate year of birth
was known from his age on the passenger list of the ship Olbers, on censuses and at
death. The first child is known from the 1860 census. The other two were found on the 1900
census then confirmed in St Rose, IL, parish records, which identified the mother of
Herman Henry as Catharine Wilke and of Johan Conrad as Caroline Schlump. more about sources used |

Theodore Johan's parents' names were on his
marriage record in Lengerich. His date of birth (Sep 8, 1806) was on his tombstone and his
age (66) was on his death record at St Francis of Assisi parish. This information allowed
Theodore Johan and most members of his family to be identified in research done from
Lengerich parish records. Theodor Johan's birthdate was taken from that parish's baptism
records. The children born 1841, 45 and 46 are presumed to have died before the family
emigrated since they were not on the passenger list of the ship Olbers. The younges
child's birth information was taken from the 1860 census. more about sources used

Anna Helena's approximate year of birth was
known from the 1850 census. It appeared she may have been a sister of Anna Angela (married
to H H Schulte.) The two women were witnesses at each others marriages. The names of Anna
Helena's parents and her birthplace were known and the 1839 census for Schwefingen listed
Anna Angela's family which included a sister Anna Helena born the same year as this Anna
Helena. Schwefingen parish records were checked and a corresponding entry found there for
Anna Helena. The parents' names listed above were taken from that record and were the same
as those of Anna Angela. more

Although family sources indicated Bernard
was born May 25, 1828 in Meppen, that information proved
to be incorrect. His place of birth was in Amt Meppen,
a district in Hannover, and not the town of Meppen.
Bernard's parents' names were known from his marriage
record at St Joseph parish and his month and year of
birth were noted on the 1900 census. Because his parents
and siblings were listed on the 1836 census in Helte,
the Bokeloh parish records were checked and a corresponding
entry was found there for Johan Bernard corresponding
to the birthdate on the 1900 census.
