Bernard Herman's approximate year of birth was known from his age on censuses. Because his sister was living with him in 1920 and his step-mother was living just a couple of houses away, the family was able to be identified on the ship Hermann which supplied probable place of birth. With that, an entry for him was identified in Walter Tenfelde's book Auswanderungen und Auswanderer aus dem ehemaligen Kreise Lingen nach Nordamerika which supplied exact birth info and parents' names.

AVERDUNK

AVERDUNK, Anna Margaretha
BORN: Aug 5, 1828, Lahre (parish in Bokeloh)
PARENTS: Johan Bernard AVERDUNK
Margaretha STOLTE
EMIGRATION: by 1849
MARRIED: Bernard BOEWER his entry
marriage: Jan 1, 1850, St. Louis, MO
SOURCES: Anna Margaretha's parents' names and her age, 19, were on her marriage record at St. Mary of Victories. The parish records of Bokeloh were checked because the name was known to occur there. A baptismal entry was found for Margaret in 1828, making her a few years older than stated on her marriage record. It is possible, but less likely, that she was Anna Adelheid born in 1831 to the same parents.
