Caroline's month and year of birth were
noted on the 1900 census. Her maiden name was known from
the WCdb of Anne Racicot. Because other Benckens in Dubois
County had come from Beesten, that parish's records were
checked and a corresponding birth/bapt entry was found
there for Bernadina Carolina. Her parents' names are from
that record. Information about husband, death and children
is from the WCdb and censuses.

Gerhard Heinrich's
parents' names were on the record of his first marriage.
An entry for his brother Joseph was found in the Osnabrueck
emgration index. Assuming Gerhard Heinrich was born ca 1825
or earlier, the records for Holte were searched and his
baptism was found in 1821 and said he was born in Vinnen.
Marriages with wives 1 & 2 and baptisms for the first
two children were in the St. Joseph's parish
in St. Louis. The third wife and remaining children are
known only from the 1860 and 1870 Iowa censuses for Davenport,
Scott County, IA.

Joseph's age and
probable place of birth were known from the Caspar's
passenger list and from the Holte parish emigration list.
The exact date was found in the church records for Holte
parish which also gave the parents' names and confirmed
Joseph's place of birth as Vinnen. His marriage to Jahnsen,
death records for him and his first two wives and the one
child's information were from records at St.
Joseph parish. The name of the third wife
is known from Heinrich Joseph's death record.
