Anna Margaretha's
birthdate and place of birth as Aschendorf and her parents'
names were known to family researchers from records in Slagharen.
Her birth record was not found in Aschendorf parish so parish
records of Lathen (in Amt Aschendorf) were checked because
a brother was thought to have been baptized there. A corresponding
birth/baptismal record was found in Lathen for Anna Grethe
BEHRENS born in Melstrup. Other information given above
came from the web page of Olivia Berndsen or the WorldConnect
database of Jean Zacha Kohler.

baptism records of their children at St Joseph parish. His place of birth was thought to
be Lengerich from a passenger list entry which appears to have been for him, his wife and
a child on the the ship Luntine. That source also supplied his approximate year of
birth. Lengerich parish records were checked and a corresponding marriage record was found
there for him there but no birth/baptism record turned up. His parents' names were known
from the marriage record. Some of the godparents for his children were from Bokeloh parish
so that parish's records were checked and corresponding birth/baptism entry was found
there for Johan Engelbert.

With that information an entry was found for her in Walter
Tenfelde's book Auswanderungen und Auswanderer aus dem

her date and place of birth, parents' names and year of

Herman's age and place of birth were known
from the passenger list of the ship Kustoff, and with that information a baptismal
entry for him was found in the records of Meppen parish which gave his place of birth and
parents' names. His death record was at St. Joseph parish. Herman's wife's name was known
from the baptismal records of their chidlren at St. Joseph parish although the child born
in 1854 had as his mother's name Anna Marg BRUENICK (Herman's mother's name instead of his
wife's name.)

found on the passenger list of the ship Luentine so the records of Meppen parish were
searched and her birth record was found in that parish although listing her birth in
Ruehle instead of Teglingen. Both villages were in the same parish. Her parents' names
were taken from that record. This ID is supported by the fact that Herman Berling from
Ruehle, who appears to have been a half-brother, was godfather for one of her chidlren and
both Margaret and Jacob Chrosthans/Grothues were godparents for children of Herman.
Margaretha's husband's name was known from the records of their chidlren baptized at St.

Bernard's approximate year of birth
was known from his age on the 1880 census. His probable
place of birth and parents' names would have been those
of Anton with whom he was living that census year. Wesuwe
parish records were checked and a corresponding birth/bapt
entry was found there for Bernard Heinrich.

Gerhard H's date of birth and parents'
names were noted on his MO death certificate. Place
of birth was noted as Meppen in his biosketch so that
parish's records were checked but no corresponding birth/bapt
entry was found there for him. The records of neighboring
Wesuwe parish were then checked and an entry was found
there for Gerhard Herman. Information about wife and
children was from the bio-sketch and 1900 census.

record. His approximate year of birth was known from
his age on the 1880 census. Because the name was known
to have occurred in Wesuwe parish, that parish's records
were checked and a corresponding birth/bapt entry was
found there for Herman Anton.
