an entry for him to be identified in Walter Tenfelde's book Auswanderungen und
Auswanderer aus dem ehemaligen Kreise Lingen nach Nordamerika which confirmed that
information, although with a birthdate 3 days earlier, and supplied ship information as
well. The listing was then found in the Germans to America series. Information

"Pierz' call [to settle in MN] was heard, and the families
began to arrive at the sites of future settlements along
the Sauk River... In March of that year [1855] a caravan
of ox teams and German families left Coal County, Missouri,
and by May they had arrived in Stearns County, Minnesota
In the caravan were four families and two brothers-in-law:
Andrew Beumel and family, J. H. Wolken and family and brother-in-law,
Joseph Junck (Young) and family and his brother-in-law,
Heinrich Bock and family, and G. Herman Brunning." |

Elisabeth's approximate year of birth

Herman had been born in Esche so Neuenhaus records were
checked and a correspondinb birth/bapt entry was found
there for Anna Elisabeth, sister of Gerhard Herman.

had lived in MO before moving to MN, she was thought to

found for him and his family on the passenger list of the ship Luntine which
indicated he was from Schwefingen. Meppen records were checked and a corresponding entry
found there for Gerhard Heinrich which indicated he'd been born in Gross Fullen, another

in 1846 until the late 1850s when she moved with her husband Bernardd Heinr THELKEN and
their family to Davenport, IA. |
| SOURCES: |
The two husbands of Catharine and her parents'
names were known from marriage records, both at St. Joseph parish. Her emigration year was
known from her entry in the the emigration index in Osnabrueck which also gave her age and
stated that she was from Lotten. A baptismal entry was found for her in the Haseluenne
church records which confirmed her place of birth as Lotten and her parents' names. The
children's baptismal records (Fischer and Thelken) in St. Louis were at St. Joseph. The
birth information for the children born in Davenport came from census information.

the passenger list of the ship Mississippi. The place
of birth of Elisabeth's sister Catharine had already been
found so Haseluenne records were checked and Maria Elisabeth's
baptism was found there too.

Ludwig is a confusing emigrant because,
after initially emigrating in 1841, he returned to Germany
at least twice for extended stays. Ludwig's parents' names
were noted on his marriage record at the Old Cathedral
in 1841 and his age was found on a passenger list earlier
that same year which also gave his place of origin. Lengerich
parish records were checked and a corresponding entry
was found there for Ludwig. Information about his children
was found in Walter Tenfelde's book Auswanderungen
und Auswanderer aus dem ehemaligen Kreise Lingen nach
Nordamerika and in St Louis parish baptismal records.
