His parents' names, marriage information, emigration year and destination were all noted in Walter Tenfelde's book Auswanderungen und Auswanderer aus dem ehemaligen Kreise Lingen nach Nordamerika. The family appears to have been living in Andervenne/Freren at the time of emigration. Birth info for a child born in Freren was from her tombstone and verified in church records in Freren. Walter Tenfelde in his book Auswanderungen und Auswanderer aus dem ehemaligen Kreise Lingen nach Nordamerika had a brief entry for Bernard Anton Foppe born ca 1814 who emigrated in 1840 from Gersten. Lengerich parish records were checked and a corresponding birth/baptism entry for Bernard was found there on January 24, 1815. His parents' names were taken from that record. Bernard's was married at St Boniface parish and the baptism of his first child also occurred there and the other two children are known from their marriage records at the same parish which noted their parents' names.

According to the passenger list of the ship Elaro and the 1850 census, Maria Anna was born ca 1820, probably in Lengerich. Her parents' names were not known from any documents but Catharine Bentken, wife of Bernard Anton Foppe, was a marriage witness at Maria Anna's marriage. One of the Maria Annas born 1818-20 was Bernard Anton's sister and is presumed to be the wife of Joh Hch Stroot. Information about children was from censuses.

Birth info for the children came from baptismal records at St. Joseph's parish.
