parents' names were on all three of his marriage records,
all at St Vincent de Paul parish. His approximate year
of birth was known from his age on censuses and on the
passenger list of the ship Mata which also supplied
his probable place of birth. Soegel parish records were
checked and a corresponding entry found there for Herman
Gerhard.
