KOLK(S), KOLCHS, KOLX
| KOLKS (KOLCHS, KOLX) -
(KOLK gt TRUESSEL), Theodore |

1835 - arrived Baltimore Aug 6, 1835 on the

Theod KOLK from Buhren (Emsbueren)
He was listed just after Herm BRUNS from Lohne (Schepsdorf) |
|
According to letters and journals written by
Herman Bruns sister-in-law (wife of Dr Bernard Bruns), Theodore had been working for the
Bruns family in Lohne before he emigrated in 1835. From the time of his arrival in MO
until Dr Bruns returned the following year with his family, Theodore helped with clearing
the land and building a modest home for the Bruns family in Osage County, MO. |
| MARRIED: |
Maria Catharine KOESTERS her entry
possibly married ca 1837 by a visiting Jesuit priest before a parish was established in
Westphalia, MO |
|
Maria Catharine KOESTERS made the journey from
Lohne (Schepsdorf) to MO with Dr BRUNS and his family in 1836. She was not mentioned by
name, but Mrs BRUNS noted in her journal that they were bringing with them a young woman
who would marry Theodore KOLKS. |

This identification is not 100% certain but
seems probable.
Theodore's year of birth was consistently given as 1805 on several censuses and on his
death record. His probable place of birth was known from the passenger list of the ship Elise.
There was no corresponding KOLKS birth/baptism entry found in the Emsbueren parish records
but there was an entry for Theodor TRUESSEL "also known as KOLK." The Emsbueren
Datenbank (online) noted that this Theodor had emigrated to America. Also in support
of this identification is the fact that Bernard RICHTERING (age 19 in 1838 but actually
born in 1823) was living with Theodore and his wife in 1839. That Bernard RICHTERING had
emigrated in 1838, at age 14, with a family from Schepsdorf who also settled in
Westphalia, MO. Bernard's mother was Susanna Maria TRUESSEL gt KOLK, sister of Theodore
born in 1805. Bernard RICHTERING was also godfather for one of Theodore's chidlren
baptized in Westphalia, MO. Information about Theodore's death was found in the book Deaths
Occuring in or near Westphalia, Osage County, MO by Cletus Hoer and Diane Hoer Olson.
The children were from Cletus Hoer's book on baptisms in or near Westphalia.more about sources used

Andrew's date of birth
and parents' names were noted in Jean Zacha Koehler's
WCdb. Information on the same website, quoted from Andreas
Joseph' emigration permit, suggested his place of birth
as Lengerich. That parish's records were checked and
a corresponding birth/bapt entry was found there for
Andreas Joseph. Information about his wife, children,
death and emigration was from the same WCdb as was the
census information.

Joseph's date of birth
was noted in JZK's WCdb. Because his presumed brother's
emigration permit said he was from Lengerich, that parish's
records were checked and a corresponding birth/baptism
entry was fround there for Joseph. His parents' names
as noted above were from that record. Information about
death, wife and children were from the WCdb.
