Maria's year of birth and the names of
her husband and children were known from the 1870 census.
Even though their place of birth was noted as Baden, this
was clearly the Ostolthoff family from Suttrup. All names
and ages are very close to entries found for them in Walter
Tenfelde's book Auswanderungen und Auswanderer aus
dem ehemaligen Kreise Lingen nach Nordamerika. Maria's
date and place of birth, parents' names, husband's name,
marriage information and year of emigration were all taken
from her entry in that book.

This identification
is not 100% certain. Helena Maria's parents' names and her
age (30) were on her marriage record at the Old Cathedral.
A brief entry was found for Helena Maria in Walter Tenfelde's
book Auswanderungen und Auswanderer aus dem ehemaligen
Kreise Lingen nach Nordamerika which gave her year (1810)
and place of birth (Handrup, Lengerich) and year of emigration.
The Lengerich parish records were checked and an almost-corresponding
entry was found there for Helena Aleid KUITER. This is thought
to be a correct identification even though Helena's second
given name was different and her mother's surname was slightly
different. Any supporting or contradictory evidence for
this ID would be welcome. Her death record was at St Boniface
parish in Germantown.

from that passenger list. A corresponding entry was found
for him in Walter Tenfelde's book Auswanderungen und

Anton's parents' names and his first wife's
name were on his marriage record in 1850 at St Joseph parish. His approximate year and
probable place of birth were known from an entry, probably for him, in the Osnabrueck
emigration index. Herzlake parish records were checked and a corresponding entry found
there for Herman Anton. Records for several children were found at St Joseph parish and
information about the rest was from Susan Knighton who also supplied the death
information for Anton. more

Most information about Maria Gesina/Rosina was
supplied by Kay Brumbaugh or taken from her FTM family webpage. The birth information was
verified in Soegel parish records for Maria Gesina and her parents' names were taken from
that record. It appears her second name Gesina was changed to Rosina in America. more about sources used
