Joseph's marriage record at St. Joseph's had his parents'
names on it which allowed his entry in Walter Tenfelde's
book Auswanderungen und Auswanderer aus dem ehemaligen
Kreise Lingen nach Nordamerika to be identified. It
contained his date and place of birth, his parents' names
(who also emigrated) and his year of emigration. His child's
baptism record in 1850 and his own presumed death record
(which only said "husband" and did not give a
wife's name nor his own age) were at St. Joseph's parish.

Maria Gesina's parents' names and her age (21)
were on her marriage record in 1841 at the Old Cathedral. Her second marriage was at St.
Joseph parish. Because her brother was known to have been born in Bawinkel parish, that
parish's records were checked and a baptismal entry was found there for her also. Her
daughter was baptized at St. Joseph parish.
