Johan Bernard's date of birth
was on his tombstone. His parents were not noted on his
marriage record at Sts Peter and Paul parish but they
were named in a biographical sketch for John Bernard.
This family was known to have been living in Gross Stavern
in 1852 (census) so Soegel parish records were checked
and a corresponding birth/baptism record was found there
for Johan Bernard.

Johan Gerhard's date of birth was
on his tombstone. His parents were not named on his
marriage record at Sts Peter and Paul parish but one
of the witnesses was H H Rawe who was married to Anna
Maria Pranger. Anna Maria had a half-brother with
the same name who would have been the same age as
this Johan Gerhard, whose year of emigration on the
1900 census was the same year as Anna Maria's. Because
Anna Maria's family was known to have lived in Gross
Stavern (1852 census), Soegel parish records were
checked and a corresponding birth/baptism record was
found there for Johan Gerhard 4 days later than the
birthdate on his tombstone.
