| RAKEL, Maria Adelaide |
| BORN: |
Sep 9, 1820, Gross Hesepe (a probable ID*) |
| DIED: |
She died before November 1849 when John Gerard
GERLS married Elizabeth TRANEL in Jefferson City, MO (unless he was someone different from
her husband of the same name.) |
| PARENTS: |
Gerhard Herman RAKEL
Anna Adelheid TILLER |
| EMIGRATION: |
1845 - arrived New Orleans Jun 23, 1845 on the
ship Luntine
Marg/Mary A RAKEL age 24, from Hesper, to St. Louis
On the same ship (although not listed together with her) was J G GELS age 29 from Brem?
(Biene?) |
|
Osnabrueck emigration index - M Adl RAKEL, no
age, emigrated from Hesepe in 1845 |
| MARRIED: |
Johan Gerhard GELS
marriage: Aug 2, 1845, Taos, Cole County, MO |
| SOURCES: |
*This ID is not 100% certain because Maria
Adelheid's parents' names were not on her marriage record at St Francis Xavier.
Her approximate year of birth and probable place of birth were known from the passenger
list of the ship Luntine. In fact, the strongest support for this ID is that she
arrived on the same ship as Johan Gerhard Gels just a couple of months before their
wedding. Gross Hesepe parish records were checked and a corresponding entry was found
there for Maria Adelheid. The parents' names noted above were taken from that record. If
she did die between her marriage in 1845 and what appears to have been her husband's
remarriage in 1849, it is not likely that more US records will be found for her to help
with this ID.more about
