Anna Catharine's approximate year of birth
(1826) was on her tombstone. Godparents for her children and a witness for her marriage
linked her closely to Johan Albert HAGENER's family. Their adopted son Johan Herman had
been born SCHERPEN in Holthausen, Meppen and Catharine's name on her marriage record was
SCHEPPENER so Meppen parish records were checked. A corresponding baptismal record was
found there for her with the same parents that Johan Herman had. The parents' names stated
above were taken from that record. Anna Catharine was married at St Francis Xavier parish
and baptismal records were found there for most of her children (not 1849 and 1852.) more about sources used

recognized on the Herzlake parish emigration list which gave her probable place of birth.
