August's month and year of
birth and year of emigration were found on the 1900 census.
That informtion corresponded with an entry for Johan Heinrich
in Walter Tenfelde's book Auswanderungen und Auswanderer

which gave his year and place of birth and parents' names.
Lengerich parish records were checked and a corresponding
entry was found there for Bernard August. Information
about his marriage was taken from the Clinton County marriage
index and his wife's surname was confirmed in her obit
in St Louis, Post Dispatch, April 1948.

Herman Heinrich's parents' names have
not been found on any US documents. His year of birth
is known from his age at death (55) recorded at St Joseph
parish which also noted his wife's name. The baptisms
and deaths of their children were recorded at the same
parish. Johan Bernard Herbes, godfather for one of the
children, was married to Helena Maria Schlange whose parents'
names were noted on their marriage record. Herman Heinrich's
birth information as noted above was from research done
for Brian Golden in Lengerich records and his parents
were found to be the same as those of Helena Maria (Herbes.)
