The identification
process for this emigrant was not straight-forward but does
seem certain. Anna Maria's age (68), her maiden name SCHNEETERS
and her late husband's name AHLERS were on her death record
at St Joseph parish (from Hoer & Olson, Deaths occuring
in or near Wesphalia
.) Her marriage in 1849 at
St Francis Xavier parish noted her name as Anna Maria Adelheid
HACKEN. Anna Maria Adelheid HAKE, born SCHWIETERS, was known
to have emigrated in 1844 as a widow with 6-7 children,
most of whom settled in Osage County, MO, where Anna Maria
Adelheid died in 1865. Information about the children was
taken from the book Auswanderungsliste fuer die fruehere
Pfarrgemeinde Twist in den Jahren 1838 - 1910 nach Amerika
which also gave Anna Maria's date of birth. Her birthdate
was then verified in Gross Hesepe parish baptismal records.
(Twist parish records begin in 1799.)

Herman Heinrich's month and year of
birth and year of emigration were noted on the 1900
census. That information allowed an entry for him
to be identified in Walter Tenfelde's book Auswanderungen
und Auswanderer aus dem ehemaligen Kreise Lingen nach
Nordamerika which supplied exact birth information
and parents' names. Information about the children
was taken from the census.
