Anna Margaretha's parents' names were on her
marriage record at St Joseph parish. Her approximate year of birth was known from an entry
thought to be for her on the passenger list of the ship George where she was listed
just after a family with the same surname as her future husband. Holte parish records were
checked because there was someone named Bartholomew Stael living in Vinnen, Holte in 1749
and a corresponding birth/baptism entry was found there for Anna Margaretha.

From the book Bornmann's Sketches of Early
Germans of Quincy and Adams County, IL., it was known that Clemens settled in St.
Joeph, MO. That would have been sometime after 1900 because he was still in Quincy, IL, on
the 1900 census. His year of birth was calculated from his age on the Quincy census and it
seemed likely that he had come from Gross Dohren because records had already been found
indicating that his father and his brother George had been born there. Clement's baptismal
record was subsequently found in the list of baptisms on Dr. Stefan Remme's website Zur

Bernhard's wife, Anna Gesina Temmen, their children and also Anna Gesina's children by her
first husband (Johan Heinrich Staverman) who emigrated with the Kuis family in 1840. From
the Father Helias' census it was known that Elisabeth was living with her step-father's
family shortly after their arrival in America. Her step-father was a witness at her
marriage, making this identification seem close to certain. more about sources used
