Margaret's approximate
year of birth was known from her age on the 1850 and 1860
censuses. Several of the godparents of her children were
recognized to be children of Gerard Wilhelm Thalken and
Euphemia Catharine Wehkamp and the surname of the mother
of the child baptized in 1846 was listed as Talke. It was
then found that the Talken-Wehkamp couple also had a child
named Euphemia Margaretha listed on the 1839 Hesepertwist
census who was the right age. An exact birthdate was found
for her in the book Auswanderungsliste fuer die fruehere
Pfarrgemeinde Twist in den Jahren 1838 - 1910 nach Amerika.
The first known child of this Sommer couple was baptized
at St. Joseph parish in St. Louis. The second was known
from census listings and names of the children born after
1850 were found in the baptismal records of St Francis Xavier
parish.
