Johan Wilhelm's
parents' names were on his marriage record at Sts Peter
and Paul parish with the mother's name given as Gesina Sebers
(his step-mother, since 1851). His probable year of birth
was known from his age at death. The probable place of birth
was known from an entry (presumably for him) in the Osnabrueck
emigration index, which had a birthdate corresponding to
his age at death. Soegel parish records were checked and
a birth/baptism record was found for the date stated in
the emigration index and with the same father's name as
on the marriage record but the mother's name on that birth/baptism
record was Phenne Maria Lakers.

Helena's year of birth was known from family
sources and from the passenger list of the ship Ernestine. Her place of birth was
known from entries for her siblings on a list of emigrants in the book Berssen - Ein
Dorf im Emsland; Orts und Kirchenchronik. The entry in the book thought to have been
for Helena had her parents' surnames reversed so the baptismal records for the parish in
Berssen were checked. The baptismal entry for Helena in 1842 had her parents names written
as given above, just as they had been given for her siblings in the Berssen book. Helena's
baptismal entry, however, had been altered at a later date to indicate that her parents'
surnames should be reversed. There was also a note on Helena's baptismal record referring
to her emigration in 1853 making it appear that the original baptismal entry had been
altered to reflect erroneous information found on the emigration list. Helena's date and
place of death and information about her children was supplied by family researchers. more about sources used |

Johan's month and year of birth and year
of emigration were known from the 1900 census. Maria Adelheid
Wester from Kl Berssen, wife of Meinert Siemer, was listed
on the 1860 census 3 houses away from John Wester so Berssen
parish records were checked and a corresponding birth/bapt
entry was found there for Johan with the same parents
as those of Adelheid. This ID is supported by the Berssen
parish emigration list which indicated that Johan had
emigrated in 1850, the same year noted on the 1900 census.

Maria Helene's parents' names were on her
marriage record at St. Vincent de Paul parish. With that information she was identified on
a list of emigrants in the book Ein Dorf im Emsland - Orts- und Kirchenchronik
which gave her date and place of birth, parents' names and emigration year. The remaining
information was from family research. The marriages of the children all took place in
Calhoun County, IL. more about

Dave Halm who
has this emigrant in his WorldConnect db |
| SOURCES: |
Johan Albert's date of birth and parents'
names were noted in Dave Halm's WCdb. Because a brother
was known to have been born in Lengerich parish, that
parish's records were checked again and a birth/baptism
record was found there for Johan Albert 3 days later
than the date in the WCdb. Death information was from
the WCdb.
