Maria's parents' names were not on her
marriage record at St Francis Xavier but her approximate year of birth (1827) was known
from cemetery records. Her identity as a daughter of J H WOLKEN and M Cath ROLLING
(daughter Anna Maria age 14 on the Hesepertwist census of 1839) was suspected because the
godmother of one of her children was Anna Maria Christina WOLKE. This was reinforced by
the fact that Eike EIKEN was godfather for another of her children and he had been married
to two WOLKEN-ROLLING daughters. And Anna Maria and her husband Valentine were godparents
for 2 EIKEN children. Gross Hesepe parish records were checked and a corresponding
birth/baptism entry found there for Anna Maria. The parents' names on the entry were the
same as on the census except that the mother was listed as Maria Catharine instead of M
