WOLTERS, Johan Gerhard
BORN: Mar 4, 1821, Schwartenpohl (parish in Gross Hesepe)
PARENTS: Bernard Hch WOLTERS (from bapt 1821)
Maria Adelheid LUEN
EMIGRATION: 1839
Emigration index, Osnabrueck - Johan Gerhard Wolters born Mar 4, 1821, Schwartenpohl, emigrated Feb 22, 1839
MARRIED: unknown
NOTES: Gerhard WOLTERS was godfather Nov 1839 in MO for a child of Bernard WOLTERS (from Schwartenpohl) and Elisabeth AHRENS from Aschendorf
SOURCES: This ID is not 100% certain because this emigrant has been found on record only once in the US and that was as a godfather. Because his surname was the same as that of the father of the child he was presumed to have been related to him. There was an entry in the emigration index for someone with his name who had emigrated from the same place where the father of the child had been born. Gross Hesepe parish records were checked and the birth/baptism entry verified that Johan Gerhard Wolters on the emigration list was indeed a brother of Bernard Wolters the father of the child baptized in November 1839.

NOTES: Biograhical Sketch for Johan Herman Wortmann

Herman WORTMANN 52, from Germany, Dairy Man
Katie, wife, 55, Germany
Barney 26, Toney 20, Henry 17, Mary, all born Germany [should be MO]
SOURCES: Johan's parents' names were on his marriage record at St Vincent de Paul parish. His approximate year of birth was known from his age at death. There were two persons by his name mentioned on the Holte parish emigration list as emigrating from Laehden Holte in 1856 and 1857, neither with an age mentioned. Holte parish records were checked and a corresponding birth/baptism entry found there for Johan Herman. The children's information is from the 1880 census.
NOTE: John WORTMAN'S biographical sketch on parge 140 of the History of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis, 1924, says he was born Oct 18, 1826 in "Leiden Kirchpere Halle", Germany. This should have read Leahden, Kirchspiel Holte. The fact that his parents' names were on his marriage records confirms Laehden, Holte as the correct place of birth and the date of Nov 21, 1828 was the closest birth/baptism date found in the records of that parish for a child of theirs named Johan Herman.
